También Somos Americanos celebrates its third anniversary. We arrived to our 36th edition with new ideas, more digital than ever, renewed hope and the greatest team of collaborators who have worked tirelessly for this long to make this editorial dream come true.
We can say that each issue of our magazine has fulfilled the mission that gave life to this project, which is to help immigrants in their process to become Americans. Moving to that goal in a time of hate and demagoguery is not easy, but the Latino`s economic and political achievements have demonstrated that success lies ahead. Getting there without leaving behind our rich cultural roots is also part of our mission. After all this is a nation that was created by immigrants, was built by immigrants and its future will be defined by the newcomer’s future.
We know very well the profile of today´s Latino immigrant: a man or woman who wishes to progress and does not see borders in the realization of his/her goals. They are people armed with determination, strong values and outstanding work ethic who will give the best of them to find a place in a country where the American dream still exists.
We are also Americans, has become the journal of Latino immigrants in the United States. For 3 years now we have brought useful and practical information on everything they need to know about the economy, health, education, nutrition, mental health and emotional balance and the subject that at all times is on the table in over 7 million American homes, the urgent need of an immigration reform.
The financial management has been a priority in our magazine. We offer information from opening a bank account; making a family budget, paying taxes and the importance of investing as our community has taken the lead in the creation of a new business in this country. And because we know well enough the best half of our community, we always consider the gender perspective of all these issues.
Since 2013 we have followed step by step the political process that forced President Barack Obama to sign the executive actions –DACA and DAPA–, which enabled thousands of students to complete their studies and work for a period of two years instead of being deported for not having documents that would give them the possibility to stay in the country. And of course also the plot of the extremist wing of the G.O.P. that decided to use the courts to block Obamas partial and brief solution.
Our optimism has not died, because, as the hard numbers of the articles published here demonstrate, the economic, social, and demographic value of Latino community should overcome prejudices, ignorance, and even craziness.
Aware of our challenges, we have brought the leadership issue to our pages. And the relevance of the art of building alliances, as illustrated by the great story of Anthony DePalma, in the article, we bring back in this issue.
In this issue of the anniversary of También Somos Americanos we offer our readers a collection of some of our favorite stories written by our wonderful team, and we also invite our audience to embrace this space, to enter the magazine in all its digital platforms, because this is also your space.
