Our First Year

También Somos Americanos is a multi platform magazine fully committed to help newcomers become Americans. Immigrant integration is our goal and we work for it with high quality journalist stories that provide our public useful information about the top priorities for most of the 10.7 million Latino families that are making the United States their new home. These families need to bridge the cultural gap between their Hispanic heritage and their new home reality so that they can advance in areas such as kids’ education, health care and prevention, life style, business development and personal finances, among others.

We know that Latino immigrants represent this nation future. Their youth and determination to succeed will define America´s 21st century. With a current buying power near $1.5 trillion, their most valuable quality is their demographics: in few years they will be one third of the country’s total population.

We are aware that at the beginning of this millennium national identities do matter, therefore the become Americans ideal does matter; nevertheless we know that in the emerging global economy scenarios, Latino immigrants will play an important role and will build many new opportunities based on the great treasure of their ancestors heritage and their unsurpassed will to succeed.

Starting with their language which we value and respect; therefore we publish in Spanish, the one they trust the most. We believe that a successful integration with strong respect of the immigrant´s cultural roots is the best possible course to follow.

This is our first anniversary edition and, as happen with our community, we have reasons to celebrate and reasons to keep pushing forward.

As a community we should be proud that Latinos have conquered the public opinion approval. Despite political extremist and professional haters efforts, in today´s America there is a clear accord that Latino immigrants are a positive input to the nation economy, security and culture. Therefore, there is public consensus that the much needed immigration reform must fix the old, obsolete and broken system still out there. And although somebody would have expected that the immigration reform would have been easily materialized, this was not the case. We could blame a perverse political game that has been able to deflate the very basics of American democracy, authentic popular representation. After 2 million people already deported during his Administration, the recent Obama´s decision to “review the administration’s enforcement policies for immigration law” is one step in the right direction.

Yet, sooner that later the reform will arrive and the people directly affected (roughly less than 18% of the Latino universe) must be ready for that by: improving their English skills, learning about their rights and obligations and moving as much as possible toward mainstream America. After all, immigrant integration means much more that getting a new passport.

As a publication we have improved a lot and just clear a path toward the digital word with a much better website; several video and radio projects already on and building a solid and supportive audience to whom our main compromise for our second year in the market is to be much more interactive, mostly through real face to face activities and, of course, the use of all social media resources.

As a Hispanic media organization we are convinced there is room in this expanding market for a multi-platform publication that has proven that is possible to build and uphold a relevant audience. Hopefully, we will be able to bring onboard the financial support that will move this project toward its full potential.

We are here due the lovely support of our editorial team that have been patient and dedicated enough to go beyond the easy (and wrong) stereotype of Latinos, as a public of non-educated, not interested audience. With their shrewd and friendly news stories, articles, photos, audios and videos about music, health care, personal finances, sports, current affairs, gadgets, art, movies, traditions, culture and pretty much everything else, they have positioned our publication over the existing tendency of offering Latinos only entertainment publications. For that, and for their upcoming masterpieces, we thank all of them. And, overall we are thankful to our readers, followers, viewers, and listeners because they are the main reason we are here, already rowing toward our second anniversary edition.
