A Latino candidate for Attorney General ran a couple of ads challenging Donald Trump ads on Twitter. You won’t BELIEVE what happened next….
CHICAGO – A few weeks ago, Jesse Ruiz began running a series of Twitter ads to engage Illinois voters. These ads stressed Jesse’s support of environmental protection, his strong stance on immigrant rights – and his principled opposition to Donald Trump and the Trump administration’s continuing attacks on our fundamental rights.
In response, a slew of Internet trolls began posting ugly, racist comments about Jesse and his Mexican-American heritage. One Twitter response featured the white supremacist meme Pepe the Frog holding a gun, warning that the ads had made Jesse “fair game.”
“It is deeply troubling that Trump’s presidency has emboldened people with hateful, racist views,” Ruiz said. “These are difficult times for all of us who believe in the fundamental American values of justice and equality and who are willing to stand up against ugliness and bigotry. But we are not intimidated, and we will not back down.”
